VMware Change Guest OS Version greyed out

Problem

VMware Change Guest OS Version greyed out

I need to change the Guest OS Version for a virtual machine on VMware ESXi. But when I tried, found that the drop-down box against Guest OS Version is greyed out and I can’t change it.

Reason

If the drop-down box against Guest OS Version is greyed out then it means VM is started or powered on.

Solution

Shut down or power off the virtual machine after that you will be able to change the Guest OS Version.
