In most cases, your entitlement product serial number is the MSA array chassis serial number. It is very important to enter the array chassis serial number as your entitlement product serial number to gain access to HPE firmware downloads and support materials.

The MSA array chassis serial number may be accessed through the HPE Storage Management Utility (SMU), a web-based interface for configuring, monitoring, and managing the storage system.

Find HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage Serial Number using SMU

If running SMU v3, the MSA array chassis serial number is accessed as follows:

• Login to HPE Storage Management Utility (SMU) by using default credentials, default username/password are manage/!manage.
• Select the System icon in the left-hand pane.
• Select the Table view.
• In the search filter field, enter the enclosure.
• Hover your mouse cursor over the MSA array chassis enclosure (usually Enclosure 1). Your entitlement MSA array chassis serial number is displayed as the Midplane Serial.

If running SMU v2, the MSA array chassis serial number is accessed as follows:

• Login to HPE Storage Management Utility (SMU) by using default credentials, default username/password are manage/!manage.
• Locate Configuration View in the left-hand pane. Under Physical view select the enclosure that is your MSA array chassis (usually Enclosure 1).
• Your entitlement MSA array chassis serial number is displayed as the Midplane Serial Number.

Find HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage Serial Number using CLI

An alternate method to gain access to the MSA array chassis serial number is through the use of the Command Line Interface (CLI).

• Log in to a SAN switch using an SSH client like PuTTY, as shown below. Default username/password are manage/!manage.
