Windows 10: ‘telnet’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

If you are getting the error” ‘telnet’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.” on Microsoft Windows 10 while trying to connect a machine through telnet then it means telnet client service not enabled/installed on your system.

Windows 10 telnet is not enabled

You need to install/enable the telnet service on your Windows 10 system as per the process shown below.

How To Enable Telnet In Windows 10:

  • Go to Control Panel>Programs and FeaturesWindows 10 program and features
  • Click on Turn Windows Feature On or Off, it will open Server manager.Windows feature turn on or off
  • Select the Telnet Client from the list and click on the OK button.Windows additional features
  • Once installation is completed close this window.telnet feature installation completed
  • Now verify the telnet service by typing the telnet on the command prompt.Verify the telnet service

    I am well aware of adding telnet from Windows feature. It shows as installed. Still not found. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Still not found.
